Why Peas in a Pod Learning Center?

* Christian Environment: Each day begins with prayer. We read bible stories and scriptures from the bible to help teach kids what it means to be a Christian and how to live thier lives like Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

* Highly trained teachers: will deliver Christian, developmentally appropriate, research based instruction that fosters confidence, self esteem and a love for learning.
Lead teachers will have a college degree, early childhood or childcare certification, or are enrolled in an educational program.
Each of our staff members is prescreened with a criminal background check and are pediatric first aid and CPR certified.
All childcare staff receive 20 hours of early childhood training each year, including frequent training in Conscious Discipline.

* Safety: Parents can rest assured that their child is safe when they log on to our secure website and access the webcam in their child’s classroom online anytime. We are one of only two child care providers in our area that offers this advanced technology. All doors are locked from the outside, including the front main door. Only authorized parents or caregivers may enter using our secure keypad on our front entrance door. We routinely check I.D.'s before releasing a child to any unknown adult.

* Low Ratios: Our low teacher to child ratio will allow dedicated teachers to focus on the individual learning styles and needs of each child. We beat the minimum state standards for classroom teacher to child ratios in every classroom. Our low ratios range from 1:4 to 1:8 in all classrooms.

* Enrichment Classes: Peas in a Pod Learning Center has formed a partnership with local enrichment teachers to offer a variety of enrichment classes on site for a minimal fee. These classes may include: BV Gymnastics Acrobus, Spanish, and Opus One Music.

* Convenient Location: Parents can easily drop their kids off on the way to work or school at our facility which is conveniently located on 2818/Harvey Mitchell Parkway, next to the Southwood Animal Clinic, and across the street from College Station Post Office. (Intersection of Southwood Drive and Harvey Mitchell Pkwy/2818).

2.) SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL: Conscious Discipline by Dr. Becky Bailey
3.) CHRISTIAN: Play & Pray Bible Stories

ACADEMIC: We Can!

Our curriculum design is thematic and skills-focused. It is comprehensive, including the nine domains required in the Texas PreK Guidelines by the Texas Education Agency, http://www.tea.state.tx.us/. We Can includes oral language, vocabulary development, and listening comprehension using literature, poetry, music, and creative dramatic play. Teachers work with children in whole and small group activities; both teacher directed and child-directed. Children choose learning centers or workstations that develop prerequisite skills in vocabulary, listening comprehension, storytelling and art expression. As children become more proficient, teachers help them develop phonological and phonemic awareness, print awareness, and early reading skills. In addition, the curriculum includes activities that teach pre-skills in math, science, social studies and fine arts.

Classroom teachers follow scripted daily lesson plans written by Dr. Gibson to ensure high fidelity of program implementation along with quality instruction and learning. The plans provide guidance for the teachers to use fun, instructional activities that are developmentally appropriate for each age group and effective tools for learning.

Learning centers, or workstations, are used to incorporate small group instruction and individual play. Children enjoy daily opportunities to develop social and academic skills. Instructional and play activities are matched to children’s needs. All curriculum and learning is aligned with scientifically based reading research (SBRR). Instruction includes how to learn and what to learn. Specific emphasis is placed on organizational thinking and planning, independent decision making and self-regulation, learning to assume personal responsibility and accountability.

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL: Conscious Discipline

Conscious Discipline® is evidence-based, and was named a national model for character education by the Character Education Partnership in 2005. Conscious Discipline® is a comprehensive classroom management program and a social-emotional curriculum. It is based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices. It facilitates early childhood teachers in creating “school families” where children and teachers can reclaim joy, helpfulness and caring as a foundation for the educational process. Conscious Discipline® assists teachers in developing their inner life, empowering them to transform conflict into teaching moments for themselves, their colleagues, and the children and families they serve. Research conducted in schools and centers using Conscious Discipline® shows that it decreases aggression, increases academic scores on state tests, decreases impulsivity/hyperactivity in “difficult” children, increases collegiality of staff, and creates a positive school climate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nap Time: All infants 0-10 months are on their own individual nap schedules and will sleep in the cribs that we provide. Children attending the young toddler classroom ages 8-18 months old take a nap at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day. Kids who are not yet walking will nap in the pack n plays that we provide.  All children ages 1.5 -5 years will be given the opportunity to rest from 12:30 - 3:00 pm each day, and will bring their own nap mat to school on their first day, and teachers will sanitize and store the mats after each use. Nap linens will go home at the end of each week to be washed and returned on Monday. Most kids will nap in their own classroom, others will share a room with children similar to their age. Nap time is a developmentally appropriate, supervised activity. Although most children will sleep, if a child has laid on their mat awake for one hour, they will be given the opportunity to participate in a quiet activity such as reading a book or may be moved to another room for a different supervised activity, until rest time is over.
